Why You Should Use Comforters and Duvet Covers

duvet coversWe have been in business since 1952, and needless to say, trends in bedding have changed many times since then.

For example, there was a time when down comforters (also called duvet inserts) were very popular in Europe, but hadn’t yet caught on here in the United States. They were expensive, and weren’t machine washable. We realize that a good comforter filled with premium white goose down can be an investment, but it’s one that will last a long time with proper care. But, as mentioned, because of price and washability, we only sold a limited number at InnStyle.

After the advent of more affordable polyester-filled comforters, customers came to realize that they had a good top-of-bed addition to their bedrooms, using a comforter with a duvet cover. There are many very good polyester-filled comforters that are long-lasting, washable and less expensive. Comforters filled with goose, duck and polyester are available with many different weights of fill.

We realize that a good comforter filled with premium white goose down can be an investment, but it’s one that will last a long time with proper care.

And there are many very good polyester-filled comforters that are long-lasting, washable and less expensive. Both types of comforters are made with many different fills and weights.

Once you have chosen your comforter (also called a duvet insert), it’s time to choose a duvet cover. A duvet cover encases a comforter similar to the way a sham encases a pillow. The cover not only protects the duvet, it also provides an added level of style and allows you an easy way to change the look of the bedroom.

Duvet covers come in many different fabrics, including cotton, poly/cotton, bamboo and heavier upholstery fabric.

Depending on the manufacturer, there are a number of closure options for your duvet covers, including buttons, a flap, a zipper or Velcro. If your duvet insert has loops, you can use a duvet cover with ties to avoid shifting.

Most duvet covers can be washed depending on the fabric. This is a major advantage to an innkeeper or vacation rental property owner. When a guest checks out, you only need to wash the duvet cover, not the comforter.

Using a duvet cover also gives you the opportunity to change the top of bed décor when the duvet cover becomes faded or tired looking, without having to change the duvet insert.

When choosing your duvet insert, be certain to check the dimensions – width, length and depth – of your mattress. You want to be sure that you have a comforter that will fit properly. The comforter and duvet cover should cover the mattress to a little below the bottom of the box spring. It’s also very important to purchase a duvet cover that fits your particular comforter. The comforter should fit snugly into the duvet cover.  It is best to stuff the comforter into the duvet cover so that it looks full, rather than have extra fabric hanging over without the fill of the comforter.

InnStyle carries a variety of duvet covers on our website, including cotton sateen, cotton duck, poly/cotton, bamboo, organic cotton and more. You can purchase these in solids and prints, depending on your decorating choice for your room.

A very informative article. Thanks for sharing this. Yes, Comforters are the fluffy blanket that is used to keep you warm and the duvets covers are for protecting the duvet. A few months ago, I bought these two from a mattress shop Dubai. And, I realized that a duvet cover set and a comforter is very important in our bedroom.
