If you’ve spent any time in a hotel in the past few years, you’ve probably encountered a bed scarf, even if you didn’t know what it was called.
A bed scarf is a throw-like piece of material draped across the foot of the bed. They’ve been popular in the hospitality industry for some time, and now the residential market has discovered their benefits and uses.
Why do we use bed scarves?
For starters, bed scarves are a great way to freshen up your bedroom décor by adding a splash of color or texture to the bed.
But putting aside aesthetics, there are a few practical reasons for putting bed scarves in your rooms. A bed scarf will protect your bedding from being soiled or damaged if someone lays down/sits down with their shoes still on.
And if a room doesn’t have a luggage rack, a bed scarf can act as a protective covering for your bedspread, duvet or coverlet if a guest lays their suitcase on top of the bed.
True, we always suggest that a room have one or two luggage racks, but if a couple or a family is traveling together and there is only one luggage rack, the bed scarf will provide coverage while they unpack.
And finally, if you don’t have a throw or a quilt at the bottom of your bed, you can use a bed scarf to keep you warm on chilly nights.
Bed scarf fabrics, styles and sizes
Bed scarves come in a variety of fabrics, including cotton, poly/cotton, 100% polyester, and chenille, to name just a few. You’ll find them in styles ranging from prints to stripes to solids. Some styles have decorative pillows to match. Most bed scarves are machine washable, depending of course, on the fabric you choose.
Bed scarves – like beds– come in different sizes, and should match the size of your bed. For instance, if you had a queen bed, you’d get a 2-ft by 8 ft bed scarf. But some bed scarves are sold not according to measurement but according to bed sizes: twin, full, queen and king.
