How to Make the Perfect Hospitality Bed

Hospitality Bed

Whether you’re running a three-room bed and breakfast from your quaint seaside cottage or a bustling 50-room boutique hotel in a trendy urban locale, making the perfect bed is one of your most important tasks.

Large hotels understand the importance most travelers place on getting a good night’s rest in a comfortable and luxurious bed, so much so that hotel chains have spent millions of dollars in recent years in what industry insiders have dubbed “the bed wars”.

Thanks to research conducted by large hotel chains, we know that, in general, guests tend to associate white bedding with comfort, luxury, and calm. Do remember, though, that such a simple color palette need not be boring. You can really let your creativity shine by layering and mixing textures and accessorizing with tasteful pops of color.

Here, we’ll show you not only how to protect one of your most important investments, your mattresses, but also how to make your hospitality bed in a manner that will be most appealing to your guests.

1. Select Your Mattress

            Stearns & Foster Haraway™ Collection

A comfortable, indulgent sleep experience on a comfortable hospitality bed is an integral part of your establishment’s success and is often the first thing guests remember about their stay. Our product, the Stearns & Foster Haraway™ Collection, is an exceptionally well-crafted innerspring mattress with excellent comfort and support.

While Stearns & Foster’s plush mattresses may be ideal for most guests, the line’s firm mattresses offer a slightly longer lifespan and are ideal for sufferers of back or other body pain. Opting for the line’s Luxury Euro Pillow Top is a great way to bridge the difference between firm and plush.

2. Protect Your Mattress & Box Spring

Good mattresses are an investment and should be treated as such, especially if you want your guests to remember and have a good rest on a relaxing hospitality bed. Start by selecting a high-quality mattress and box spring protector to keep your mattresses in top shape and to maintain their pristine condition.

Our Mattress & Boxspring Encasements and Covers come in a variety of materials, construction types, and sizes. Some are both waterproof and breathable, fully protecting your mattresses from dust mites, bed bugs, and other allergens. Most of these products are also machine-washable in hot water, making cleaning a breeze.

After encasing your mattress and box spring, we recommend a straightforward approach: add a bed skirt or box spring wrap. Choose a polished model that fits over your box spring, similar to a fitted sheet. Our Fresh Ideas BedSkirt features crisp, tailored box pleats for a clean, elegant style, while our Hotel Style Box Spring Wrap adds a clean, textured diamond pattern, beautiful earthy tones, and a reinforced elastic seam at each corner of your hospitality bed.

Designer’s Tip:

Before you begin selecting and purchasing your bed linens, put together a mood board to visualize better how you want your hospitality bed and room to look and best represent your company. You can do this by taking photos of the existing room, and then finding pictures of finished beds and bedrooms online, or in your favorite decor magazines.

There are many helpful online tools, but a physical mood board with printed images, paint swatches, and material samples can be a more useful tool for comparing colors and textures. It can even be later framed and made into a unique piece of art to display in your establishment.

Moodboards can also be created in sketch or scrapbooks and later used as your guestbook or recommendations book.

3. Pad Your Mattress

       Bordered Baffle Box Featherbed

Once you’ve applied your bed skirt, add your mattress pad, as well as a featherbed or fiberbed, to provide an extra layer of comfort and a little extra grip to prevent your sheets from slipping off the hospitality bed. This added feature will enhance a guest’s experience.

For example, our Bordered Baffle Box Feather Bed offers a “sleeping on clouds” experience and an appealing sculpted appearance that adds another soft cushion for guests to enjoy.

4. Select and Lay Your Sheets

As guests today are more quality savvy than ever, you can’t afford to skimp when it comes to your sheets.

Our signature Innstyle 600 Wrinkle Free Sheets, boasting a 600 thread count in 100% pima cotton with beautiful sateen weave, are so popular they’ve even been raved about in The New York Times!

These sheets are so beloved by guests that many innkeepers display a set in their lobbies or gift shops so guests can order. If you’d like to do something similar, place your order, and we’ll ship the respective sheets directly to your guest’s home address.

Making sure you have the perfect sheets for your company and your guests is a major detail you shouldn’t ignore till the last minute. Give your guests a truly memorable sleep experience with exceptional hospitality bed sheets.

InnStyle provides an extensive selection of hospitality sheets in a range of styles, fabrics, sizes, and colors, tailored for hospitality companies and eco-friendly establishments. Our offerings include a complete range of organic cotton, bamboo, and Tencel sheets, as well as blended fabric options to meet diverse needs.

5. Select, Cover, and Lay Your Duvet or Comforter

When selecting a duvet and cover, keep the room’s average temperature in mind, as well as the overall look you want to create. Your duvet or comforter will be the main focal point of the hospitality bed, and this is an area in which you can really let your unique style shine.

                          Botanical Quilt

While down and down-alternative duvet inserts are excellent options, and duvet covers make for much easier washing, innkeepers in warmer climates may wish to forgo the duvet insert and duvet cover and use a top sheet, blanket, and quilt or coverlet (which will be lighter weight). If an innkeeper is doing a turn-down service, staff can use the top sheet and blanket after the turn-down of the quilt.

For example, depending on your needs and budget, you may want to combine a top cover, such as our Basketweave, which is a little heavier than a third sheet, with an Evora Matelasse Coverlet or a Botanical Quilt Set. There are several styles to choose from for your establishment.

If you prefer old-world charm over a more modern look, take a look at our Milano Hemstitch Duvet Covers, a 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton percale duvet with a subtle hemstitch. It fits well with a wide range of styles, from classic Victorian to European rustic.

6. Select, Protect, and Place Your Pillows

Pillows play a crucial role in enhancing the guest experience at your hospitality property. A quality pillow not only promotes restful sleep but also significantly contributes to overall guest satisfaction. It’s essential to select the right pillows that cater to the specific needs of your visitors. The right support and comfort provided by a well-chosen pillow can make all the difference in ensuring that guests enjoy their stay and the hospitality bed that you have prepared for them.

InnStyle offers a range of well-made, comfortable pillows. The InnStyle PrimaSera™ Down Alternative Pillow is available in soft, medium, and firm textures, which cater to different guests’ needs.

And don’t forget to protect your pillows, too. Just like with your mattress, you’ll want to select an encasement that is perfect for your hospitality bed. InnStyle offers a variety of pillow protectors. Some are waterproof and breathable, yet still capable of protecting your pillows from bed bugs, dust mites, bacteria, and other allergens.

You can then cover your pillows with a mix of both traditional pillowcases and decorative shams to achieve your desired look.

7. Accessorize Your Bed with Additional Pillows, Throws, and Scarves

Now you can finally get to the fun part: finishing your hospitality bed by selecting from a range of blanket throws, bed scarves, and pillows. Here, you’ll want to focus on adding extra texture and even small pops of color to tie your dream bed into the overall design of your room.

                         Velvet Throw

Once you’ve chosen to invest in high-quality basic hospitality bed linens, decorative pillows, and throws are also a great way to change the look of your room on a seasonal or even regular basis without breaking the bank.

Our Velvet Throw is luxuriously plush and makes an excellent choice for chilly winter months. At the same time, the Luxury Herringbone Cotton Throw, in 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton, adds a splash of sophisticated color and style.

We offer a limited selection of decorative pillows that are available only with specific comforter or duvet sets; they are not sold separately. They are in unique shapes, styles, and textures to help you add the finishing touch to your hospitality bed. Decorative pillows with rounded shapes, pleated textures, and geometrical prints coordinate perfectly with more modern looks. In contrast, pillows with unique accents and embroidered details work best for more eclectic and period-oriented styles.
