Terry Towels are Important for the Hospitality

Towels are arguably the most important linen to a property manager that doesn’t belong on the bed.  Finding the right terry towel for your property doesn’t have to be difficult.  There is a wide selection of towels to choose from to best fit the needs of your property.  There is quite an extensive process involved in making high-quality towels.  One of the most common construction designs of a towel is with terry fabric.  This blog will explain what a terry towel is, how it is made, and how to properly care for towels.

What is a Terry Towel?

A terry towel has yarn loops that are found on the surface of the towel. Most of terry towels are designed with yarn weaves that are either vertical or horizontal.  The loops on a terry cloth towel offer advantages that other types of towels do not have.  Some the benefits include increased levels of absorbency, extra softness, greater strength, life expectancy, and less wrinkling.  With these advantages, it is extremely common to find terry towels in most bathrooms, but most guests don’t notice the type of towel they are using.  Most guests would notice that it feels soft and comfortable but don’t know why that is.

How are Terry Towels Made

Terry towels are usually produced with cotton.  However, they can also be developed with a cotton and polyester blend.  The cotton helps the towels become more absorbent, breathable, and plush while the polyester is responsible for providing the towel with extra strength and a quicker drying time.  Terry towels are best known for having loops that stand on the base of the towel.  The loops are designed at different heights depending on how thick the designer wants the towel to be.  Towels with thicker loops will feel soft and lavish while towels with less thick loops will feel more breathable.  Overall, towels will become more absorbent as the loops become higher and thicker on a towel.

How to Care for Terry Towels

  • Divide towels for laundering by color such as white, light colors, and darker colors to keep their high quality and to prevent colors from bleeding.
  • Wash towels in cold water to help prevent their colors from fading and be careful not to overload the washer.
  • Shake towels in between using the washing machine and dryer to help get rid of water and speed up the drying process which helps save time and money.
  • Cut off any pulled loops with a pair of scissors to help prevent any future pulling or snagging on loops near those that were damaged.
  • Keep towels on a hanger instead of a hamper to help prevent the potential growth of mold and mildew or any bad odors or use antimicrobial towels.

InnStyle Has Terry Towels for You

Terry towels are a popular towel option for many properties.  Some of the more popular terry towels offered on InnStyle’s website include the Ringspun Cotton Towel, WPH Cotton Towel, and the InnStyle Suites Towel.  InnStyle does offer other types of towels that are not terry including MicroCotton® Hotel Collection Towels and Lux MicroCotton Towels.  Please give InnStyle a call if you have any other questions about terry towels, other types of towels, or general bedding and hospitality questions.  InnStyle can be reached at 267-354-6020 or 800-877-4667.  Their website is https://www.innstyle.com/.
