7 Rules for Using Hotel Bedding to Improve ROI

Hospitality Bedding

InnStyle has been in business long enough to have seen trends in the hospitality industry rise and fall. This is especially true for bedding in properties such as hotels, inns, and rental properties. However, one thing hasn’t changed: guests will always want comfort and quality.
That’s why those of us at InnStyle have decided to share rules for improving your return on investment in property bedding.

1. Your Bedding Should Reflect Your Brand

Does your bed-and-breakfast or inn have an official color or logo? Use bedding in that color, or have your logo embroidered on decorative pillows, bed scarves, throw blankets, or any other item that doesn’t need to be replaced as often as your bedding.

As Hotel Management’s Jena Tesse Fox writes, new innovations are allowing hotel bedding suppliers to blend branding with the bedding itself.

“Sferra, for example, can take a custom pattern and create a unique jacquard or matelassé weave. In New York City, the Surrey hotel has a customized jacquard from Sferra on its duvet covers, and the James Royal Palm hotel in Miami Beach, Fla., has designs on the bedding that look like water when viewed from a certain angle.”

InnStyle offers a full line of Sferra bedding and can fulfill the minimum order requirements as stated above.

2. Use Sheets Designed for Hotels

The sheets you use at home won’t withstand commercial laundry standards. Choose sheets that can endure the frequent washes required in hospitality. Choose high-quality materials such as cotton or polyester blends for durability, and ensure they last longer by following the cleaning instructions. Additionally, opting for higher thread counts can enhance softness and longevity, ensuring they maintain their appearance and feel even after multiple washes.

 3. Make Sure Bedding is Never Washed with Harsh Chemicals

“Your laundry facilities should avoid using products with chlorine. Most companies don’t, but sometimes they will,” Jon Bryant, sales director of hospitality at Sferra, told Hotel Management. “Be sure your laundry uses a good formula.” This advice is crucial not only for maintaining fabric quality but also for ensuring the longevity of the linens. Choosing the right cleaning products can significantly impact the overall guest experience, making it essential for hotels to prioritize safe and effective options.

4. Have Enough Linens in Stock

A helpful guideline is to have three sets of sheets for each bed. While one set is in use, another can be in the laundry, and the third can be in storage. This practice will reduce the frequency of washes each set undergoes, thereby extending their lifespan. InnStyle provides a recommended quantity list for all your purchases, whether you’re a new owner or a long-time property manager in need of new products.

5. Does Thread Count Really Count?

According to Chris Gowdy, the VP of Liddell, thread counts of 1,000 or 1,200 consist of twisted yarns and multiple-pick insertions. He emphasizes that a balanced weave should ideally feature a straightforward single-pick construction instead.

Single-pick sheets generally feature a tighter weave and a softer feel. This quality not only delivers an excellent (ROI) return on investment by reducing wear and tear but also enhances guest comfort.
InnStyle offers recommendations for purchasing sheets that fit your budget while ensuring a comfortable experience for your guests.

6. Fabric Yarn Quality Matters

Although super-fine yarns may appear appealing, they do not withstand commercial washing and ironing processes well. Their delicate nature can lead to stretching and distortion, compromising the garment’s overall fit and appearance. As a result, it’s often better to choose more durable fabrics for items intended for regular use.

7. Add Some Color to Your Bedding

There are small ways to add pops of color to your hotel bedding, such as festoon lines on duvet covers, shams, and pillow cases. Consider incorporating vibrant accent pillows or throws to enhance the overall aesthetic. Additionally, using bedsheets with subtle patterns can create visual interest without overwhelming the space.

InnStyle Will Help You

A key factor in ensuring an excellent property experience is providing fresh, comfortable bedding that helps your guests relax and sleep well. InnStyle offers a wide selection of bed linens, including bedspreads, coverlets, top sheets, duvet covers, quilts, comforters, and blankets.
