Which Amenities are Most Important?

We have been asked by many Innkeepers which amenities are most important to have available for their guests.

Below is a list of basic items which most guests would expect to have in their guest room.

1. Soap at the sink and in the shower
2. Shampoo
3. Conditioner
4. Body Wash (optional) some people prefer to soap
5. Hair Dryer
6. Robes
7. Slippers
8. WiFi availability (free is preferred-if not in room-available in a common area)

There are many amenities that an innkeeper does not have to provide in each room but could have available for your guests:

1. Shower cap
2. Makeup Remover towels and/or Facial Wipes
3. Cotton swabs, cotton balls and nail file
4. Mouthwash
5. Shaving cream & Razors
6. Deodorant
7. Toothpaste & toothbrush
8. Sewing kit
9. Iron & Ironing Board
10. Hairbrush/Comb
11. Lint roller/or Mitt
12. Nail polish remover
13. Sanitary products
14. Power adapters
15. Multiple outlets or a power strip
16. Laundry Bags
17. Room Freshener for Bed/Bath
18. Extra hangers

Innkeepers can keep the above hotel supplies in a closet or space where it would be easily available to them and their guests. Guests will also appreciate good lighting by bedside so that they can read or work in bed. Providing extra pillows other than what is on the bed is also a luxury that guests appreciate. Many properties will offer a pillow menu from which guests can choose. Extra blankets are appreciated especially if you are located in a cold weather climate.

The list above are some recommendations that you could include in your amenities program that will help set your property apart from your competition. In today’s world, social media is used frequently by guests who may post about the exceptional bed and breakfast, country inn or hotel in which they stayed, which can be a wonderful advertisement for your property.
