What is the Ideal Room Temperature for Your Property?

One of the primary goals for the hospitality industry is to make sure guests are comfortable, relaxed, and feeling at home.  An overlooked area that can dictate how comfortable a guest feels is room temperature.  This can be challenging because everyone has different opinions on what is the ideal room temperature.  Ultimately,  guests should not feel too hot or too cold during their stay.  This blog will explain the ideal room temperature for properties, how men and women prefer room temperatures, and recommend bed linens to help with temperature control.

A perfect room temperature can be described as not feeling warm or chilly while wearing common indoor clothing.  It is recommended that properties keep their temperatures at an average of about 68 degrees Fahrenheit to 72 degrees Fahrenheit.  Although, experts recommend keeping room temperature on the cooler side of around 68 degrees Fahrenheit for the elderly, infants, or people who are sick.  Rooms that are too warm for infants can increase the risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).  Also, rooms that offer microfiber bedding could make guests feel warmer since microfiber tends to be less breathable compared to other linens like cotton.

Differences Between Men and Women on Room Temperature

Women usually prefer rooms to be warmer than men.  However, men prefer sleeping in temperatures around the upper 60s Fahrenheit while women like sleeping in temperatures around 70 degrees. Due to their physiology, women often feel chillier than men when they are in a room of the same temperature.

The thermostat is the primary way that room temperatures of a property are regulated, but it is not the only way that guests can choose how warm or cold they feel.  Ceiling fans can also be installed to help decrease room temperatures and make guests feel more comfortable.  Extra linens like comforters and blankets can be stored in a closet and be easily accessible to guests if they are feeling chilly and would like extra warmth.  Throw blankets can also be used for people who may get chilly during the day.  InnStyle offers a wide range of high-quality blankets.  Some of their more popular blankets include the Classic Cotton Blanket, the WPH Cotton Blanket, and the Velvet Blanket.
